Bunkers! What You Need To Know
Did you know that bunkers can be the most expensive line-item in a golf course maintenance budget, often costing more per sq. ft. than putting greens?
Did you know that bunkers can be the most expensive line-item in a golf course maintenance budget, often costing more per sq. ft. than putting greens? Here’s an article the USGA put out sometime ago regarding the expensive nature of bunkers, and not much has changed.
At Staples Golf, we’ve spent an incredible amount of time educating the industry on sustainability and resource efficiency, and bunkers have always been a hot-button topic due to their expense and variable nature; style, size, sand, drainage, liners, etc.
Here’s what you should know:
- Bad bunkers equate to poor customer experiences, and are still expensive to maintain.
- Bunker sand's typical lifespan is 5-7 years.
- Bunker projects range from $5-$15 per sq. ft. on average.
- Yes! It's possible to have a great golf course with very few to no bunkers!
So how are you handling your bunkers? Want to get rid of all or some of them? Curious as what to do with your failing bunkers? Click here for a helpful resource which you and your golf course staff may find interesting.
And for those of you who have been negatively affected by recent weather events, we're here with any questions you may have related to your bunkers or course in general.
