Strong Municipal Golf Leadership Required!

This month’s topic hits on an area that we don’t spend enough time on; the importance of golf advocates in leadership roles. Is your course surrounded by people that love the game? Are any of the decision makers for your golf course, actually golfers? Do any members of your Municipal council play golf? Those who are fighting for golf and its values seem to be in limited supply these days.

This game's success is reliant upon those who understand it most, and can advocate for its benefits to those not yet familiar with them. If we can do this, our communities can become stronger and healthier through golf, and revenue for community focused golf facilities will likely increase!

We’re here to say, if your Municipal golf course is showing signs of trouble, and you don’t have golf advocates making some of the key decisions, your situation is likely to get worse, not better. We want to take a moment to encourage owners and operators of Municipal golf courses to get people that understand the game in positions of authority.

It's a deep love and understanding of this game for why most of us play whenever given the chance.  It’s the reason we bring our kids to the game, and why we make time for our friends when they invite us to play. We’ve spent a great deal of time talking about how to view the game differently, and how golfers need to adapt and better address societal changes that affect the game. So how are those of us who love the game most, giving back to golf?

Here's What You Need To Know:

- Identify the Council members that play golf, and get them engaged with the course
- When hiring for positions that handle course decsions, place a premium on those who play
- If you play golf, and love the game, be an advocate! Have pride!
- Understand there are 20 million US golfers, and 15,000+ golf courses that rely on our passion for the game

Timing is Everything

We realize that more often than not, everything comes down to timing, so when you're ready for us, we'll be ready for you and your golf course!

Please remember, we present webinars at no charge to stakeholders who oversee facilities looking to improve. If that's of interest to you, please tell us about your golf course byclicking here.

Sincerely,

Andy Staples, ASGCA
